1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Pile AI, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.

2. Service Description

Pile AI provides an AI-powered knowledge service that processes documents from a curated collection to answer questions. The service owner maintains a knowledge base of documents, which the AI uses to generate synthesized, paraphrased answers to your questions.

You can ask questions about this knowledge base on a pay-per-query basis. A free preview is available before payment so you can evaluate answer quality.

3. Preview Before Pay

Pile AI offers a free preview of answers before you commit to payment:

• You may preview up to 3 questions per email address within a 24-hour period
• Previews show a short teaser of the answer along with confidence metrics
• Previews expire after 24 hours and cannot be recovered once expired
• Preview quality is representative of the full answer but does not guarantee specific depth or coverage
• To access the full answer, you must complete payment through our secure checkout
• Once paid, your full answer is available immediately and does not expire

4. Pricing and Payments

• Quick queries and deep research queries are priced separately as displayed at the time of purchase
• All payments are processed securely through Stripe
• Applicable taxes are calculated and applied automatically at checkout
• Prices are in USD unless otherwise stated
• We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice

5. Refunds

• Paid queries are generally non-refundable since a preview is provided before purchase
• Refunds may be issued at our discretion in cases of technical errors or service outages that prevent answer delivery
• If a paid query fails to generate an answer, the issue will be flagged and resolved, or a refund will be issued

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any illegal purposes
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract the underlying knowledge base content
• Share your account credentials with others
• Submit queries designed to abuse, spam, or overload the system
• Use automation tools or bots to submit queries or previews
• Attempt to reconstruct, reproduce, or redistribute the source documents underlying the knowledge base
• Redistribute, resell, or publicly republish AI-generated answers without written permission

7. Intellectual Property and Copyright

The source documents in the knowledge base are the intellectual property of the service owner and/or their respective rights holders. The knowledge base content is protected by copyright law.

AI-generated answers synthesize and paraphrase information from the knowledge base. They do not reproduce original documents and are not substitutes for the source materials. Answers are provided for your personal, informational use only and may not be redistributed, resold, or published without written permission from the service owner.

Citation references in answers (e.g., "Source 1", "Source 2") indicate which portions of the knowledge base informed the response. These references do not grant access to or rights over the underlying source documents.

8. DMCA and Copyright Complaints

We respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that content generated by our service infringes upon your copyrighted material, you may submit a written notice to our designated agent with the following information:

• A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
• A description of the specific AI-generated content you believe is infringing
• Your contact information (name, address, email, phone number)
• A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf
• Your physical or electronic signature

Upon receipt of a valid notice, we will promptly investigate the claim and take appropriate action, which may include removing or modifying the relevant knowledge base content.

9. Content and Accuracy

AI-generated responses are based on the documents in the knowledge base. While we strive for accuracy:

• Responses may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information
• Responses should not be considered professional, legal, medical, or financial advice
• You are responsible for verifying information before acting on it
• We are not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated responses
• Confidence scores and source counts are estimates and do not guarantee accuracy

10. Service Availability

We strive to provide reliable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. We are not liable for service interruptions due to maintenance, technical issues, or factors beyond our control.

11. Privacy and Data

Your use of Pile AI is also governed by our Privacy Policy. We collect minimal personal data and use industry-standard security practices.

12. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for users who violate these terms, including but not limited to systematic extraction attempts, abuse of the preview system, or redistribution of answers. In case of termination:

• Pending previews will be invalidated
• No refunds will be issued for previews that were not converted to paid queries
• You may appeal termination decisions by contacting support

13. Limitation of Liability

Pile AI is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to lost profits, data loss, or business interruption. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid in the past 12 months.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email to users who have made purchases. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
